It is Finally Starting!!
February 10, 2006
In our locker room this year, my team started a countdown to the Opening Ceremonies. I remember back in November when the number was 106 Days Till the Opening Ceremonies. We would write a little number in the corner of our white board (such as 105 DTOC) and change it every day. Well....after many practices and workouts and games, we are finally here.
Tonight, with over 2 billion viewers watching, we will walk in one of the most symbolic events of our time. There are over 50 countries participating in these games, and the spectacle that we will be a part of will help express the univerdal values on which the Games are based. To me, this event is the second best part of the Games (next to winning a gold medal and watching your flag being raised and hearing your anthem). The Opening Ceremonies are a time when every athlete is equal, participating as a whole, representing the Olympic Ideals of sportsmanship, fair play, and peace between nations. It is much larger than any individual at the Games and is a moment in time I know I will never forget.
This year opera star Luciano Pavarotti will be singing. It is also a time when all the athletes get to mingle. There are three villages in Torino, so we do not get to interact with the US athletes that are not in our village. When the rest of the world is watching the begining of the Ceremonies, all the athletes will be in a holding spot (actually in the Ice rink adjacent to the stadium) and we will be interacting and taking pictures, while watching the Opening Games on small monitors throughout the rink.
For now, we have one more practice, where we can finally mark 0 Days till the Opening Ceremonies.

Fantastic game today. Watched the whole thing. Very exciting. Different watching when you know somebody participating. Alex (boyfriend) found himself watching also. He did a lot of yelling when the ref called some of those bad penalties! Great Game Angela. Best of luck to you and your team. Sandy Raucci (M&G)

Hi Everyone -
Super couple of games so far...keep up the good work. Passing looks clean, teamwork/chemistry working well, and you're doing a great job of shutting the other sides down. You're playing wonderful hockey to watch here (HDTV) in New England on a snowed-in, blizzardy Sunday. Making us all very proud. Get some rest and thoroughly enjoy the whole Olympic experience.
Your blog got a plug from Bill Clement (think it was him??) during the game, so you may be getting plenty of traffic.
Best Wishes - WL
