Detriot Free Press: Ruggiero not on the firing line
January 14, 2007
So far, trading in her skates for high heels, the boards for the boardroom and hockey pucks for Wolfgang Puck worked out OK for Angela Ruggiero.
The former Harper Woods resident got a fair amount of face time in Sunday night's opening episode of NBC's "The Apprentice: L.A."
And when she introduced herself as a three-time Olympic medalist in hockey (not to mention a cum laude Harvard grad with a degree in government), Donald Trump gave her a hug.
Not a bad sign from the guy who does the firing. None of the other 17 contestants got that Trump touch.
But on to the first task, which was running a car wash.
They made pretty spiffy car wash crews in their business suits, and things seemed to be going well for Ruggiero's team.
"If there's one thing that would cause us to lose the task, it would just be, you know, the chaos," she said.
No problem. Her team won, and Trump fired a guy named Martin from the losing side.
As a reward, Ruggiero's team got to stay in a mansion next door to Trump's and went to dinner at Spago with The Donald and Melania.
The losers stayed in a tent they pitched in the backyard. Hey, we didn't sign up for "Survivor," dude.
Next week it's "Baywatch," as the task is designing swimwear, which the voiceover called "the ultimate L.A. task."
Quick hit
• Bayern Munich goalkeeper Oliver Kahn, on why he expects to retire from soccer when his contract's up in 2008: "I will be 39 then and it's time to take off the shorts and begin to develop yourself in a different direction."
